The Capstone project has really helped and made me use all aspects of the project. It made me use critical thinking by making me work, do research on a topic. Also with being with my mentor she really made me think about my life choices and whether the nursing field was for me. Although i was interested in the nursing field beforehand, i dont think its for me. Maybe as a backup option, but not as my primary goal/career. Communication, this project has really helped me out with my communication skills. I was always a shy person, but meeting a stranger and asking them to be my mentor and spending 20+ hours with them, it has really helped me with my communication. As for collaboration, i think the fact that me and my mentor met for 20+ hours is a collaboration.I used creativity in the capstone by thinking of a different form of nursing and trying to find the importance of what they do.
I think i gained a lot from this capstone. I learned that this nursing isnt something im interested in at the moment but could be a fallback option. Socially i learned how to interact better with people, as i said im a very shy guy that just needs to get broken out of his shell, and i think this project has really helped me in that category. Intellectually i also gained a lot. I learned more about critical care nursing and what they do. Also learned a lot more about medicines such as OTC drugs and alternative medicines. This project has helped in a bunch of ways.
Some of the challenges i faced with this project has been the time. Time is a big factor especially senior year. Youre stressing out about senior project, you have senior ball, you have to meet with your mentor. Its been a really tough time trying to fit it all into my schedule. I overcame it by just staying focused, cutting out some of the unnecessary things in my schedule and made time for the project.

5/7 Mentor Blog

I told my mentor this would most likely be the last time I would meet with her for the senior project. She was very sad but happy that she had spent the time with me. I treated her out to some In&Out and she asked me if I was really interested in being a nurse after observing her work. I told her I would consider it as I'm still undecided on what I would like to do. She also questioned me as a review about critical care nursing and the medicine aspects she made me research.
Total hours: 26

Today she made me research about the educational requirements in order to be a nurse. I was fairly surprised to see the educational requirements. You need an ADN which is an associates degree In nursing for an undergraduate. Bachelors in Science. Did not know much science was needed but it makes sense because you need to know how the body functions (biology). After doing the research she made me give some of her patients the medicine and to keep them company.

Today my mentor treated me for some Starbucks. Then we went to work. She made me do some of the stuff she normally wouldn't let me do. She let me meet some of her patients and made me give them some of the medicine they were prescribed. Most of her patients were of the elderly and were really nice. They liked to conversate with me whenever they saw me.

Also asking me what were the brand names. She was told me that she needed to know those medicine names by heart because she needs to fill order forms out for her patients and she needs to be able to give the patients the medicines they need.

She told me to research about ibuprofen and antibiotics and what they're used for. I learned that Ibuprofen is the name of the medicine and that some brand names are Advil, Motrin, etc. they are commonly used for pain in the body. Antibiotics are used to destroy the growth of bacteria in your body. To kill them to ire your illness.

We were just talking she was asking me what interested me about being a critical care nurse. And why I chose it for my senior project. I responded by saying that some of my family members were taken care by critical care nurses and I think helping the needed is always good. I told her I chose it because i found it somewhat interesting and that some of my family were former critical care nurses. After lunch she again told me to observe what she did. She mainly just bathed patients and fed them. Also made me run some errands for her like delivering things. Everything she made me do was very minor.
